Bilingual Event: GWA round-table discussion to commemorate International Women's Day

***Spanish*** Este evento es una mesa redonda con activistas feministas de toda América, incluyendo ponentes de Chile, Argentina, México, Puerto Rico, Ecuador y los EE.UU. Después de breves presentaciones de cada ponente sobre sus experiencias personales en el movimiento feminista y una breve descripción del contexto socio-político actual de cada uno de sus países, tendremos una discusión en profundidad entre las ponentes y los miembros de la audiencia. El propósito de este evento es aprender de las experiencias de las demás y construir la solidaridad feminista en todo el continente. Nos vemos el martes, 9 de marzo a las 4:00 pm (MST)! ***English*** This event is a round table discussion with feminist activists from across America, including speakers from Chile, Argentina, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Guatemala, and the U.S. After short presentations from each speaker about their personal experiences in the feminist movement and a brief description of the current socio-political context of each of their countries, we will have an in-depth facilitated discussion between the speakers and audience members. The purpose of this event is to learn from each other’s experiences and build feminist solidarity throughout the continent. The Past, Present, and Future of Black ASL

Please join ASU's Interdisciplinary Committee on Linguistics as we welcome Dr. Joseph C. Hill, PhD, Associate Professor in the Department of ASL and Interpreting Education at Rochester Institute of Technology, Director of the Deaf Studies Lab in the Center on Culture and Language, and Assistant Dean for Faculty Recruitment and Retention.
This talk addresses the sociolinguistic and geographical factors in the formation of Black ASL--the ways that historical and linguistic changes in Black ASL align with educational, political, and cultural landscapes in the US--as well as the ways that Black ASL continues to evolve over time with the ever-shifting culture and ideology.
